چکیده
A miner, known to have had lung silicosis for 30 years, was investigated for abdominal pain. A retroperitoneal mass was found, in which histological examination showed an inflammatory reaction to silica.

A stone miner with both silicosis and constrictive pericarditis: case report and review of the literature
BACKGROUND The working environment of stone miners has been believed to cause their susceptibility to respiratory diseases. Silicosis is an occupational disease caused by exposure to crystalline silica dust which is marked by inflammation and scarring in the lung. The immune system boosted after the silica invasion led to self-damage and lay the foundation of silicosis pathogenesis. Silicosis c...

Silicosis is an occupational lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silica. People working in occupations like sandblasting, surface drilling, tunneling, silica flour milling, ceramic making, and so forth are predisposed to develop silicosis. Crystalline forms of silica are more fibrogenic than the amorphous forms, highlighting the importance of the physical form in pathogenesis. Lung...
متن کاملSilicoproteino-tuberculosis: Three distinct entities or a unique entity: A case report and review of the literature
Silicosis is considered to be among the occupational lung diseases and associated with sandblasting, mining, quarrying and tunneling. Acute silicosis is usually progressive diseaseand despite treatment with corticosteroids it leads to cardio-respiratory failure and death. Alveolar silicoproteinosis is one of it’s acute presentations due to exposure to silica dust and lungs filling with protei...
متن کاملSuppressive oligodeoxynucleotides reduce lung cancer susceptibility in mice with silicosis.
Silicosis is an inflammatory lung disease induced by the inhalation of silica-containing dust particles. There is conflicting data on whether patients with silicosis are more susceptible to lung cancer induced by cigarette smoke. To examine this issue experimentally, a model was developed in which one of the most abundant and potent carcinogens present in cigarette smoke [4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosam...
متن کاملSilicosis and lung cancer: a mortality study of compensated men with silicosis in New South Wales, Australia.
BACKGROUND Lung cancer mortality has been found to be in excess in several groups with silicosis, but allowance for smoking was not always possible. We investigated the lung cancer mortality in men with silicosis in New South Wales, Australia, who were compensated, making allowance for smoking habits. METHODS A mortality study of 1467 men with silicosis in New South Wales who were compensated...
